The Russian reconnaissance vessel Kildin has worried Britain. Pictures of the ship near the Dutch frigate, which was escorted by the British aircraft carrier, appeared on the network. The author of The Times suggested that the Russian ship was following the British aircraft carrier group.
The Russian reconnaissance vessel was spotted in the pictures of the Dutch frigate Evertsen off the coast of Oman. The Kildin was moored in front of a ship of the Royal Netherlands Navy. The publication notes that Evertsen was accompanied by the British aircraft carrier HMS Queen Elizabeth.
H.I. Sutton, an intelligence specialist based on open sources, noted that the Russian ship is designed to collect intelligence. "Originally built as a hydrographic ship more than 50 years ago, the Kildin is now used for electronic reconnaissance purposes. It has several antennas," Sutton explained.
The author of The Times suggested that the Russian ship was spotted during surveillance of a British aircraft carrier. The publication notes that the Kildin left the port after the Evertsen frigate.
The hydrographic vessel Kildin was launched in 1969, and in 1970 the ship was converted into a medium reconnaissance vessel. Kildin is equipped with special radar, radio reconnaissance and sonar equipment.
In September, H.I. Sutton drew attention to the Russian oceanographic research vessel "Yantar" near the territorial waters of Ireland. The Russian ship can disrupt underwater communications, the UK Defense Journal reports.
