An armored car similar to the Belarusian "Cayman" was demonstrated at a recent arms exhibition in Sudan. Interestingly, it was on a par with other samples of military equipment of local enterprises.
This radically updated version of the Soviet "mess", the BRDM-2, created by specialists of the 140th repair plant from the city of Borisov, was launched in 2016.
It was reported that currently most of the components used in its production, including the housing, are of Belarusian production.
The special vehicle has good protection from small arms fire and ammunition fragments. Resistance to mine explosions is provided by a V-shaped bottom.
The power of the D-245 diesel engine is 170 hp. The armored car has good mobility, so it can accelerate up to 110 km/h on the highway. The possibility of forcing water barriers afloat has been preserved. The fuel reserve is 1000 km.
The model demonstrated in Sudan has a turret with a 14.5-mm KPVT and a 7.62-mm PKT, which is familiar to Soviet armored vehicles. At the same time, on other modifications, you can see 12.7-mm "Cliffs", 30-mm automatic machine grenade launchers AGS-17 "Flame". A version equipped with a remote-controlled combat module with a 30-mm 2A42 cannon has been created.
The first foreign customers of the Caimans were the power structures of the Republic of Ivory Coast.
