The head of the holding Andrey Boginsky noted that the helicopter has become 400 kg lighter
MOSCOW, November 8. /tass/. Russian Helicopters Holding (part of Rostec State Corporation) has upgraded the Ka-226T light helicopter for India, significantly reducing its weight. This was announced on Monday by the General Director of the Russian Helicopters holding (part of the Rostec state Corporation) Andrey Boginsky at a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
"The car was redesigned, lightened to their [Indian side's] requirements, it became 400 kg lighter for use in the mountains," Boginsky said.
The head of the holding recalled that earlier Russia and India had created a joint venture for the production of Ka-226T. "Accordingly, a joint venture was made in 2017 in India. We have done a lot of work with Indian companies to localize the systems of this helicopter," Boginsky added.
The joint venture Indo-Russian Helicopters Limited of the Russian Helicopters Holding, Rosoboronexport and the Indian corporation HAL was established in India in May 2017 to implement a project to localize the production of Ka-226T helicopters.
In 2015, Russia and India signed an intergovernmental agreement on the supply of light Ka-226T helicopters to the Indian side and localization of the production of such machines on its territory. The document provides for the supply of 60 Russian-made helicopters and the production in India of another 140 machines with a localization level of 50-70%. Moscow also offered New Delhi to consider the possibility of producing a marine version of the Ka-226T for the Navy at Indian facilities.
