Dubai. November 7th. INTERFAX - Three drones were involved in the assassination attempt on Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kazemi on Sunday morning, local media reported with reference to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the republic.
At the same time, the security forces were able to destroy two of these devices during their raid on the prime minister's residence, located in the "green zone" of Baghdad, the media add.
As reported, shortly after the attack, Prime Minister Al-Kazemi appealed to the population of the country to show composure.
No one has claimed responsibility for the attack yet.
The United States condemned the rocket attack on the Prime Minister's residence and offered assistance in investigating the attack. "This apparent act of terrorism, which we strongly condemn, was aimed at the very heart of the Iraqi state," the State Department said in a statement.
In turn, the secretary of the Supreme National Security Council of Iran, Ali Shamkhani, also condemned the attack. On his Twitter page, he blamed the attack on "foreign analytical centers that brought only a sense of insecurity, discord, instability to the oppressed people of Iraq through the creation and support of terrorist groups and the long-term occupation of the country."
