MOSCOW, Nov 6 - RIA Novosti. Russian military intelligence officers confirmed at the exercises the possibility of effective firing from silent special screws "Val" and "Vintorez" at record distances of over 1 kilometer, although officially their firing range is limited to no more than 450 meters, the Rostec state Corporation told RIA Novosti.
The "Vintorez" and "Val" rifles use integrated large-size silent firing devices and a 9 by 39 mm caliber cartridge with a subsonic bullet flight speed. "Silencers" of rifles detain most of the powder gases formed when fired, and a bullet in flight does not pass the sound barrier and does not create a sharp sound audible over long distances. As a result, the volume of a rifle shot in an open space can be compared to a strong clapping of hands.
"The Val submachine gun and the Vintorez sniper rifle developed by Tsniitochmash (part of Rostec) proved the possibility of hitting targets at distances significantly exceeding the parameters set in the TTX. During the exercises, the servicemen confidently hit targets at a distance of more than 1 kilometer, despite the fact that these weapons are usually used "short" - within 450 meters," Rostec said.
Twice the effective firing range of special weapons was confirmed during the exercises of the reconnaissance units of the combined arms army of the Eastern Military District, the corporation said. The military trained to use standard weapons at night and at ranges exceeding the standard ones. In addition to the "Shaft" and "Screw Cutter", other weapons were also used.
As Bekhan Ozdoev, the industrial director of the Rostec armament complex, recalled, the main purpose of the Shaft and the Screw Cutter is to conduct silent and flame-free firing at distances up to 450 meters in combination with a high armor-piercing effect and a powerful stopping ability.
"But the capabilities of Val and Vintorez really allow us to successfully hit targets at ranges significantly, twice the official tactical and technical characteristics of the products," Ozdoev added.
