NASA astronauts have grown and eaten chili peppers on the International Space Station (ISS) for the first time in history. This was announced by American Catherine MacArthur on her Twitter account.
"After harvesting, we tried red and green chili peppers," she clarified and said that the crew had a Friday night party, cooking a space taco.
The seeds of hot pepper were planted in the summer as part of an experiment on growing plants in microgravity. The researchers wanted to find out what foods could be grown in space.
In September 2009, the astronauts of the Discovery shuttle filmed the process of making a space burrito. In microgravity conditions, this event takes a lot of time and requires good technical skills from the performer.
