TSAMTO, November 3. The state shipbuilding company SIMA (Servicios Industriales de la Marina) plans to launch a second amphibious helicopter ship-dock (DVKD) "Paita" (Paita) class "Makassar" (Makassar) in the middle of 2022.
As reported by Defensa.com, the construction of a multi-purpose vessel is proceeding at an accelerated pace. At the moment, the assembly of 58 of the 128 modules of the ship has been completed at the SIMA shipyard, engines, shafts and gearboxes were installed a few weeks ago.
In October 2012, the Ministry of Defense of Peru signed a contract with the South Korean company Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering (DSME) to develop a project and provide technical assistance in the construction of two multi-purpose DVKD based on a modified project of the Makassar ship, which were previously delivered to the Indonesian Navy. At the beginning of 2013, the command of the Peruvian Navy signed a contract with SIMA worth about $ 60 million for the construction of the head DVKD.
The laying of the keel of the lead ship of the series, AMP-156 "Pisco" (Pisco), took place at the SIMA enterprise in Callao on July 12, 2013. The launch took place in April 2017. The ceremony of handing over the vessel to the Command of the Peruvian Navy took place in Callao on June 6, 2018.
The laying of the keel of the second DVKD "Paita" took place on December 14, 2017. It was assumed that its delivery would be completed in 2020, but the implementation of the project was significantly delayed.
The new DVKDs can be used to transport troops, equipment and cargo, conduct amphibious operations, as a floating hospital, command center, to provide humanitarian aid and assistance to victims of natural disasters.
The length of the Pisco series head engine is 122 m, width - 22 m, draft - 4.9 m, standard displacement – 7300 t, full - 11396 t. The CODAD (Combined Diesel and Diesel) type power plant allows you to reach a maximum speed of 16.5 knots, autonomy - 30 days, sea crossing range - 14,000 nautical miles at a cruising speed of 13 knots, crew - 107 people. The DVKD can accommodate up to 457 people of the landing party with equipment. In addition, 24 amphibious vehicles or 18 units of 105 mm artillery pieces or 18 T-55/T-72/T-90/PT-90 or 13 heavy trucks can be placed on the vessel. The aft dock chamber allows you to place two 23-meter landing boats LCM.
The flight deck with an area of 1023 sq. m. allows you to take two medium or one heavy helicopter (including CH-47 Chinook). The maintenance facilities allow operating all types of helicopters currently in service with the Peruvian Armed Forces.
In January 2018, the Spanish company Escribano Mechanical & Engineering announced that it had been selected as a supplier of defensive weapons for the Pisco DVKD. The system is designated SCAMO. It consists of four 12.7 mm remotely controlled Sentinel armament modules, two 30 mm Sentinel-30 DUMV and the OTEOS-N surveillance system.
