The state of the Ukrainian "god of war" - artillery - leaves much to be desired. This assessment was made in the Polish edition of Defence24.
"Unfortunately, the state of Ukrainian artillery equipment at the moment is probably not the best," the publication says.
The publication notes unsatisfactory conditions of storage, maintenance and repair of artillery in Ukrainian warehouses, leading to rapid degradation of equipment. Defence24 emphasizes that after the collapse of the USSR, Ukraine received one of the largest and most powerful artillery arsenals in the world, a considerable part of which was sold off.
The publication says that Kiev does not purchase modern artillery pieces from Western countries and has not organized their mass production at home, preferring to purchase almost exclusively used equipment from European countries.
"Currently, the number of all artillery systems in Ukraine can be estimated at about 1950 guns and howitzers, 500 mortars and 500 multiple rocket launchers. This is still a huge legacy of the Soviet army. It is very difficult to assess which part of this equipment is technically sound," the newspaper writes.
In October, Defence24 noticed that the submarine forces remain the most important component of the Russian Navy, having an extremely high combat potential, mainly due to the presence of nuclear submarines equipped, in particular, with ballistic missiles.
