Russian weapons were evaluated in the United States. The 19FortyFive edition has published a list of the most common submachine guns. The list included a Russian-made submachine gun.
The American edition notes that the first submachine guns appeared during the First World War. These weapons were also used during World War II, but later assault rifles were used as the main infantry weapons. In turn, compact submachine guns remain in service with rear units and special forces units.
The 19FortyFive list includes the Russian PP-19-01 Vityaz submachine gun. The author emphasizes that the Vityaz was developed as a replacement for the AKS-74U shortened submachine gun. According to him, the submachine gun became a smaller copy of the assault rifle, which was adapted for the use of pistol-caliber ammunition.
The Vityaz received an adjustable buttstock and a Picatinny rail for attaching accessories. A submachine gun can hit targets at a range of up to two hundred meters, and the mass of weapons without ammunition is 2.9 kilograms.
Also included in the publication's list are MP5 and MP7 submachine guns from Heckler & Koch, the Belgian FN P90 submachine gun and the American Mk.18 Mod 0.
In September, a representative of Zlatmash JSC spoke about the development of a new CEDAR-PARA submachine gun PP-2011.000. The weapon is intended for law enforcement agencies and special forces units. In 2022, the state tests of the submachine gun will begin.
In August, the Kalashnikov Group of companies presented a prototype of the PPK-20 submachine gun. The weapon was developed for use as part of the pilots' wearable emergency reserve.
