In the Russian armed forces, much attention is paid to the improvement of weapons for the ground forces, this is the topic of the publication in the November issue of the magazine of the Ministry of Defense "Army Collection" by V. Litvinenko, A. Klyukoit "Modernization and development of new artillery models".
It describes the measures taken to improve the characteristics of domestic guns, howitzers, mortars and multiple rocket launchers, in particular the world's most powerful self-propelled 240 mm mortar 2C4 "Tulip".
Since tracked chassis are currently used on these combat vehicles, which are based on developments from the late 40s, it is proposed to replace them with a modern platform - the three-axle all-wheel drive Ural-63706 Tornado-U.
This all-terrain vehicle is already used in heavy flamethrower systems of the Tosochka-2. It has good mobility, can accelerate up to 100 km/h on the highway, and the fuel reserve is 1000 km.
The new self-propelled gun will receive a new set of on-board equipment, it will be given a unified transport-loading vehicle, as expected, high-precision ammunition will be created.
It is reported that such measures will increase tactical mobility, provide guidance automation and autonomy of action.
It is also expected that using the developments obtained during the creation of the newest CAO 2C35 "Coalition-SV", the 152-mm 2C3 "Acacia", 2C19 "Msta-S", 2C5 "Hyacinth-S" available in the troops will be upgraded.
