Washington. October 29. INTERFAX - The pace of China's development of its own weapons is impressive, Beijing can outpace the United States and Russia, said John Hyten, deputy chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the United States Armed Forces, speaking at a meeting with a Washington Group of military observers.
"Calling China a growing threat is a useful term because the pace at which China is moving is staggering," American media quoted Hyten as saying.
"Judging by the pace at which they are moving and the trajectory along which they are moving, they will surpass Russia and the United States if we don't do something to change that. It's going to happen. So I think we have to do something," he said.
In his opinion, the public should be concerned about China's achievements in the field of hypersonic missiles.
"What you need to worry about is that in the last five years or maybe more, the US has conducted nine hypersonic missile tests, and at the same time the Chinese have conducted hundreds," Hyten said.
At the same time, Hyten said that Russia is an immediate threat to the United States.
