The Indian Armed Forces conducted a test launch of an Agni-V intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) with a range of over 5 thousand km.
This is reported by The Times of India newspaper with reference to the Ministry of Defense of the country.
"The successful test of the Agni-V, capable of hitting the northern part of China, is consistent with India's policy of ensuring reliable minimum deterrence based on the principle of non-use of weapons of mass destruction first," the newspaper quotes a statement from the defense ministry.
It is noted that the solid-fuel three-stage rocket Agni-V was first tested at night. It was also the first test of this ICBM by the Indian Strategic Forces Command since the Agni-V entered service this year.
The rocket was launched from an island missile test center off the coast of Odisha in the direction of the Bay of Bengal. The rocket's flight was constantly monitored using radars, ground-based and marine optoelectronic tracking systems, the TASS edition quotes.
