DUBAI, October 26. /tass/. The Odyssey virtual reality system developed by the Rocket and Space Corporation (RSC) Energia (part of Roscosmos) for spacewalk training will be put into operation in November, and the Nauka module will appear in it until March. This was reported to TASS by Dmitry Akhmedov, a leading engineer of RSC Energia.
"Contracts are being closed on October 31, and we are putting this system into operation from November," Akhmedov said on the sidelines of the 72nd International Astronautical Congress in Dubai.
He noted that at the moment the simulator has not drawn a new multifunctional laboratory module (MLM) "Science", but its model will appear in the near future. "I hope that [it will appear] by March, even earlier. We will have MLM exits in January, and we need to keep up," said the leading engineer of RSC Energia.
The simulator is used before preparing astronauts for a spacewalk.
Earlier it was reported that RSC Energia (part of Roscosmos) presented the Odyssey virtual reality system at the Roscosmos stand at the International Astronautical Congress in Dubai, with which visitors have the opportunity to feel like an astronaut working in outer space on the ISS.
The 72nd International Astronautical Congress is being held at the Dubai World Trade Center from October 25 to 29 under the auspices of the International Federation of Astronautics. The event will be attended by heads of space agencies from different countries, representatives of the space industry, equipment manufacturers and scientists specializing in space-related issues. Experts will present their achievements and discuss plans for future space exploration missions.
