The Soviet T-55 medium tanks created in the 50s are considered obsolete and in many European armies they were decommissioned long ago, almost everywhere they managed to be sent to scrap metal.
The Serbs turned out to be the wisest of all, they also withdrew 720 such combat vehicles from the troops, but concentrated them on storage bases. At the same time, their company Yugoimport-SDPR began offering to buy T-55N upgraded at the Chachak armored plant.
The tanks received an improved fire control system, which increased the accuracy of shooting in day and night conditions. To increase survivability, they received mounted dynamic protection. They are equipped with smoke grenade launchers and new means of communication.

In the end, the search for a possible client was crowned with success. The Pakistanis decided to acquire old but proven equipment, and not the ground forces, but the units of the Border Corps guarding the border with Afghanistan. The first hundred T-55NS were delivered at the beginning of last year. A total of 282 such tanks were purchased. The amount of the transaction was, according to some sources, $ 74 million. It may not be too much, but it is much more profitable than a simple disposal.
