Moscow. October 25. INTERFAX - The training of the personnel of the combined Russian-Egyptian parachute unit has been completed for the active phase of the Defenders of Friendship-2021 exercises, which are taking place several dozen kilometers from Cairo, the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation reported on Monday.
"During the active stage of the joint exercise, more than ten units of military equipment and cargo, as well as more than 150 servicemen of the two countries will be landed at the Aswag landing site," the report said.
According to the Ministry of Defense, Egyptian paratroopers were trained under the guidance of Russian instructors to jump on Russian parachute systems D-10 Il-76MD military transport aircraft of the Russian Aerospace Forces.
"Earlier, Russian paratroopers, together with a special-purpose group of Egyptian paratroopers, practiced landing on the territory of the designated facility from C-135 Hercules and C-295 Casa aircraft using special-purpose Arbalet-1 parachute systems," the press release says.
The training of personnel for the active phase of the exercises was carried out on the basis of the parachute formation of the Armed Forces of Egypt, stationed in the city of Inshas, 60 kilometers from the capital Cairo, the report said.
From the Russian Airborne Forces and the paratroopers of the Egyptian Armed Forces, a combined unit with a total of more than 500 military personnel is involved in the exercise "Defenders of Friendship-2021", which takes place from October 17 to 29. As well as Il-76MD aircraft of the Russian Aerospace Forces and C-130 Hercules, Casa C-295 and heavy military transport helicopters Chinook of the Egyptian Air Force.
