Three dozen upgraded T-72B3M tanks will be received by the end of this year by units of the Russian 201st military base in Tajikistan. This was announced on Sunday by the chief of staff of the compound Yevgeny Okhrimenko.

According to him, armored vehicles with improved combat characteristics will replace tanks of earlier modifications as part of the re-equipment of the base with modern samples of military and special equipment.

Recall that the T-72 is the main battle tank of the Ground Forces. Based on it, several improved combat vehicles have been created over the past decades. Including those used by Russian and foreign participants of the popular "Tank Biathlon".

In the T-72B3M variant, this machine was first demonstrated in 2018 at the international military-technical forum "Army", which was held in the Moscow region. According to the Uralvagonzavod Corporation, where this combat vehicle was created and produced, the tank is equipped with a new diesel engine with a capacity of 1130 horsepower, additional protection of the turret, side projections and bottom. Modern fire control systems have been installed on it, allowing to hit targets day and night, as well as digital means of communication.

As for the Russian 201st military base, earlier motorized infantry units of this compound were equipped with advanced infantry fighting vehicles BMP-2. In addition, the military was equipped with the latest portable anti-aircraft missile systems "Willow", rocket-propelled infantry flamethrowers of increased range and power and anti-tank missile systems "Kornet".

The arsenal of small arms of the base was replenished with AK-12 Kalashnikov assault rifles and 12.7 mm ASVK-M "Cord" sniper rifles. And logistics specialists received at their disposal modern sanitary armored vehicles "Lens".

The Chief of Staff of the 201st base said that during the exercises, the personnel successfully mastered new weapons, practiced effective forms of warfare, taking into account the experience of modern armed conflicts. More than 1.5 thousand soldiers and officers of the base participated in three such maneuvers in Tajikistan this week. The joint exercise of the CSTO countries "Interaction - 2021", a special exercise of logistics "Echelon-2021" and joint training of intelligence units on the exercise "Search-2021" took place at the ranges "Harb-Maydon" and "Momirak" near the border with Afghanistan.
