The President of the Republic of Korea said he was proud of the launch, despite the fact that it was not possible to "perfectly fulfill all the goals"
SEOUL, October 21. /tass/. The first South Korean carrier rocket "Nuri", launched in the country on Thursday, failed to fulfill all the tasks assigned to it. This was stated to journalists by the President of the Republic of Korea Moon Jae-in, after watching the launch at the Naro cosmodrome in Jeolla-Namdo province, 470 km south of Seoul.
"The trial launch of Nuri took place. I'm proud of it. Unfortunately, during the first launch, we were not able to fulfill all the goals perfectly, but we achieved a very decent result," the President stressed.
According to the Yonhap news agency, during the flight, all systems worked normally, but at the last stage the rocket was unable to put a one-and-a-half-ton mock-up of the satellite into orbit. Earlier, representatives of the Ministry of Science of the country during a live Internet broadcast from the cosmodrome reported that the launch was completely successful.
South Korean scientists have been developing a launch vehicle since 2010. 2 trillion won ($1.79 billion) were allocated for the project. In May 2022, with the help of Nuri, it is planned to launch a 200-kilogram satellite into orbit.
