Turkish-Qatari company BMC Otomotiv is cutting staff. The problems of the manufacturer of the Turkish tank Altay ("Altai") were told in the USA. Financial problems may delay the development of the tank, according to Defense News.
A representative of BMC told the publication that the company fired 30 employees. He added that the number of shifts was tripled at the enterprises that are part of BMC. The company also stopped producing Tuğra trucks.
According to the employees of the Turkish company, the contract for the production of Altay tanks cannot improve the condition of the enterprise yet. "Even if their production starts today, deliveries cannot be carried out earlier than in five years," said a senior BMC engineer.
Defense News reminds that the production of the Altay tank is hampered by problems with components. Thus, the Turkish manufacturer does not have access to technologies for the production of armor, engine and transmission. BMC is in talks with South Korean companies Doosan and S&T Dynamics about the joint development of a power unit for the tank.
In August 2020, the head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade Denis Manturov said about solving problems with the engine and thermal imagers of the T-14 Armata tank. He stressed that the power unit of the Russian car meets the characteristics that are laid down in the terms of reference.
