The Lada-type submarines of Project 677 belong to the fourth generation of diesel-electric submarines
MOSCOW, October 21. /tass/. The first serial non-nuclear submarine of Project 677 (code "Lada") "Kronstadt" built by Admiralty Shipyards is planned to be transferred to the Russian Navy in 2022. This was reported to TASS by a source in the shipbuilding industry.
"The transfer of the first serial Lada - the Project 677 Kronstadt submarine - is planned for 2022," he said.
TASS has no official confirmation of this information.
The Lada-type submarines of Project 677 belong to the fourth generation of diesel-electric submarines. The developer of the project is the Central Design Bureau of Marine Equipment "Rubin" (part of the United Shipbuilding Corporation). Thanks to the use of new solutions in the hull design, special coating and the latest radio electronics, they have unsurpassed stealth, less noise and a number of deeply improved systems compared to third-generation submarines. Their surface displacement is approximately 1.75 thousand tons, under water they can reach speeds of up to 21 knots. The Ladas are armed, in particular, with Kalibr-PL missile systems. The crew consists of 35 people.
The lead diesel-electric submarine of Project 677 "Saint Petersburg" has been in trial operation since May 2010. The media reported that in September 2021, she joined the Northern Fleet. Two more boats of this project were contracted at the International Military-Technical Forum "Army-2019". The deadlines for the transfer of the Kronstadt and Velikiye Luki submarines to the Russian Navy have been repeatedly postponed.
"Kronstadt" was laid in 2005, its construction was suspended and was resumed only in 2013. On September 20, 2018, the boat was launched at the Admiralty Shipyards shipbuilding enterprise in St. Petersburg.
