Motorized skirmishes of the Southern Military District destroyed groups of conditional gangs during a large-scale exercise of the district's troops, the press service of the Southern Military District reported. The event was held at the Opuk training ground in the Crimea.
"Conditional gangs entered the territory of the republic in order to carry out terrorist attacks and destabilize the situation in other regions of the Southern Federal District. The militants were blocked by the forces of motorized rifle units of the army corps with the support of tactical airborne troops. Together with the tactical groups of the armed forces, the gangs were destroyed," the report says.
In addition, the troops landed with the help of aviation of the Southern Military District. "About 20 Mi-8AMTSh helicopters of the Air Force and Air Defense association of the Southern Military District provided the landing of motorized rifle units of the coastal defense unit of the Black Sea Fleet," the press service said.
The command and staff exercises started on October 13 at the training grounds of the Southern Military District. The event will also be attended by units of military bases of the Southern Military District stationed in Abkhazia, Armenia, South Ossetia, part of the forces of the Black Sea Fleet, the Caspian Flotilla, which will work out practical actions in the waters of the Black and Caspian Seas.
In total, it is planned to involve about 8 thousand people, up to 350 units of weapons and military equipment from the combined arms armies, air Force and air defense associations, formations and units of the branches of the armed forces and special forces of the district subordination in the exercises with the associations and formations of the Southern Military District. One of the tasks of the exercises is to check the readiness of troops in the south-western strategic direction.
