Ships make the transition from the Baltic to permanent bases
MOSCOW, October 17. /tass/. A detachment of ships and submarines of the Pacific Fleet, carrying out the transition from the Baltic to permanent bases, entered the port of Colombo in Sri Lanka. This was reported to TASS by a military-diplomatic source.
"A detachment of ships and submarines of the Pacific Fleet, led by the corvette "Gremyashchy", after crossing the Bab-el-Mandeb Strait, passing the Gulf of Aden and the western Indian Ocean, entered the port of Colombo on October 16 and will replenish supplies within three days," the agency interlocutor said.
The Gremyashchy corvette is the lead ship of Project 20385, built at the Severnaya Shipyard (part of the United Shipbuilding Corporation) and transferred to the Russian Navy on December 29, 2020. The "Gremyashchy" went to the Far East in August as part of a detachment led by the large anti-submarine ship of the Northern Fleet "Vice Admiral Kulakov", which later became part of the Mediterranean Squadron of the Navy.
The detachment also includes the Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky and Volkhov submarines built at Admiralty Shipyards under Project 636.3. They were handed over to the military on November 25, 2019 and October 24, 2020, respectively.
The corvette and both submarines are carriers of Kalibr cruise missiles. They can launch up to 20 missiles of this type in one salvo.
