The US Army and the American military-industrial corporation Lockheed Martin conducted tests of the Precision Strike Missile (PrSM), reports The Drive.
During the tests, a missile called the "killer" of Russian air defense systems, for example, the S-400 Triumph, was launched from the M142 High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS) installation at the Vanderberg Air Force Base USA in California towards the Pacific Ocean.
Lockheed Martin said the rocket flew more than 400 kilometers, breaking its previous range record set in May. Then the tests took place at the White Sands test site in New Mexico and confirmed the claimed characteristics of the weapon, in particular the range and accuracy, as well as the possibility of integrating the missile with the M142 HIMARS launcher.
In April, Breaking Defense reported that the US Army is exploring the possibility of increasing the range of PrSM missiles to 1,600 kilometers.
The PrSM should enter service with the US Army in 2023.
According to Defense News, currently the claimed maximum range of the PrSM is 499 kilometers, but it can be increased to 550 kilometers, since the United States and Russia are not bound by obligations under the Treaty on Shorter- and Medium-Range Missiles (DRMSD).
