The upgraded M-84 tank was shown at the Partner-2021 exhibition in Belgrade (Serbia). The M-84AC2 received an upgraded fire control system (FMS), new surveillance devices and dynamic protection. This is reported by Army Recognition.
The basic version of the M-84 is based on the design of a licensed copy of the Soviet T-72M tank, which was produced in Yugoslavia. The tank received a 125 mm smoothbore cannon with automatic loading. The main gun was complemented by a twin machine gun and an anti-aircraft machine gun at the commander's hatch.
The presented upgraded tank was equipped with a remote-controlled machine gun. The M-84AC2 also received a digital communication and navigation system.
The M-84AS2 tank integrated a gunner's sight with an optical channel, a laser rangefinder and a third-generation thermal imager. The commander's panoramic surveillance device was also equipped with a thermal imager and a rangefinder. This allows the gunner and the commander to capture different targets.
The security of the M-84AC2 is provided by new generation dynamic protection units and lattice screens. To protect against guided missiles, the tank was equipped with laser radiation sensors. When pointing an enemy munition, the system automatically puts up a smoke screen to disguise the vehicle.
Earlier, Serbia showed a version of the Lazar III armored personnel carrier with Russian combat modules. At the Partner-2021 exhibition in Belgrade, a car with a 30-millimeter cannon and a version with a 57-millimeter cannon were demonstrated .
