MOSCOW, October 14. /TASS/. The second serial nuclear-powered strategic missile submarine of Project 955A (code "Borey-A") "Generalissimo Suvorov", under construction at the Sevmash enterprise (part of the United Shipbuilding Corporation, USC), will be transferred to the Navy of the Russian Federation in December 2022. This was reported to TASS by a source in the shipbuilding industry.
"The Generalissimo Suvorov submarine strategic cruiser will join the Russian navy in December 2022, and in December of this year the missile carrier will be launched. Then its tests will begin, during which it will launch the Bulava intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM)," he said.
The Sevmash press service did not comment on this information to TASS.
In September, Vladimir Korolev, Deputy Director General of the USC for Military Shipbuilding, said in an interview with TASS that Generalissimo Suvorov will be tested in 2022, and currently the cruiser is preparing for launching.
The laying of the ship took place at the Sevmash software on December 26, 2014. It belongs to the fourth generation of underwater nuclear-powered vessels created for the Russian Navy. Currently, the fleet has four submarines of projects 955 and 955A in combat. The fifth - "Prince Oleg" - will be transferred to the Navy in December 2021.
The Borey and Borey-A submarines were developed by the MT Rubin Central Design Bureau, all of them can carry 16 Bulava ICBMs on board and are equipped with 533 mm torpedo tubes. According to the military department, "Borei-A" differ from the submarines of the basic project by less noise, better maneuvering and retention systems at depth, as well as an improved weapon control system.
