St. PETERSBURG, October 12 - RIA Novosti. The diesel-electric submarine of project 636.3 "Magadan" was transferred to the Russian Navy.
On Tuesday, the Admiralty Shipyards (part of the United Shipbuilding Corporation) hosted a ceremony of raising the naval flag on the submarine "Magadan".
"For many years, the Navy has been consistently increasing its composition, improving the combat capabilities of groups of troops and forces. And today there is another replenishment in the Navy - we are taking into our composition the newest warship, the submarine Magadan. This is the third submarine built on the Admiralty branches for the Pacific Fleet," Acting Chief of the Naval General Staff Mikhail Neupokoev said at the flag-raising ceremony.
Magadan is the third submarine of the series for the Pacific Fleet, laid down on November 1, 2019, launched on March 26 this year.
The contract for the construction of a series of submarines of Project 636.3 for the Pacific Fleet was signed in September 2016. The first submarine of the series of six for the Pacific Fleet "Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky" was transferred to the Russian Navy in November 2019. The second, Volkhov, was received by the fleet in October 2020. Currently, the fourth submarine of the Pacific series "UFA" is forming a light hull, pipe and electrical installation work, installation of acoustic coating. The fifth and sixth submarines of the mOzhaysk and Yakutsk series were laid down on August 23 of this year.
The submarines of this project belong to the third generation, have a displacement of 3.95 thousand tons, an underwater speed of 18 knots, a diving depth of 300 meters, a crew of 52 people, an autonomous navigation of 45 days, an economical diving range of 400 miles. They are equipped with the latest inertial navigation system, modern automated information and control system, high-precision missile weapons, powerful torpedo armament. The submarines are armed with torpedoes of 533 mm caliber (six vehicles), mines, and the Kalibr strike missile system. They can detect a target at a distance three to four times greater than that at which they can be detected by the enemy. For their secrecy, these submarines received the name "black hole" in NATO.
