Two American strategic bombers B-1B Lancer, which are capable of carrying nuclear weapons, flew near the borders of Russia over Lithuania. This was reported by the command of the US Air Force in Europe and Africa, RIA Novosti reports.
The planes took off from an airfield in the UK, and then flew over the territory of Lithuania, near the Russian borders, and refueled in Germany. The flights were conducted in order to "increase the readiness and interaction of gunners responsible for coordinating airstrikes to support ground forces."
It is noted that the actions of the American crews were coordinated with Lithuanian and British aircraft gunners who identified simulated ground targets. Both B-1B Lancer were transferred to Europe from an air base in Texas.
In July, aircraft of the Russian Navy (Navy) flew near the missile destroyer of the US Navy (Navy) USS Ross in the Black Sea.
