The Ukrainian satellite sIch-2-30, which is scheduled to launch in December, can be used to monitor the movements of military equipment in the Donbass and ships on the Black Sea, the head of the country's State Space Agency (SCAU), Vladimir Taftai, said in an interview with RKB-Ukraine .
Commenting on the insufficient resolution of the Ukrainian spacecraft (about seven meters), the head noted that one image with a resolution of half a meter, obtained from another satellite, will determine the type of artillery installation, and then there will be enough "satellite " sIch" in order to track where it is moving."
"It's the same with ships. One detailed satellite image is needed to understand what kind of vessel it is, but its further movement across the Black Sea will be absolutely clear according to the data of the satellite "sIch". And his capture of the frame will allow us to detect this ship," said Taftai.
In September, the former head of the SCAU and director of the private company Kurs Orbital, Vladimir Usov, said that the economic indicators of Ukrainian rocket and space industry enterprises are getting worse from year to year, since Ukraine does not create demand for space products, and there are no tools to attract international investment.
In the same month, during a meeting held by the Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine — Minister for Strategic Industries Oleg Urusky with the participation of the head of the SCAU Vladimir Taftai, held at the Yuzhnoye Design Bureau (KB), it was confirmed that work on the Earth remote sensing satellite "sIch-2-30" is proceeding in accordance with the previously approved schedule. The spacecraft is scheduled to launch in December on an American Falcon 9 rocket.
