The Ukrainian upgraded T-64BM2 is currently considered the most advanced serial version of the entire family of these tanks produced in Kharkov. A Ukrainian tankman, who posted a video on his Youtube channel, told about the features of its design.
The main feature of this "sixty-fourth" was the 1000-horsepower 6TD-1 engine, previously used on the T-80UD.
Its installation improved the mobility characteristics, but forced the designers to raise the tower due to the increased height of the stern. A special ring had to be welded into the case, so a barbet was used to protect the shoulder strap.
Additional armored plates appeared on the turret and hull to increase the resistance from projectiles. The built-in dynamic protection was placed in a slightly different way than on the Bulat BM. The launchers of 81-mm smoke grenades "Cloud" were made spaced.
Instead of the 1G42 sight, not the newest 1G46 was used, and the wind sensor remained old.
Nothing was said about the night sight, for sure, at best, an infrared device is installed, similar to what is already available on the above-mentioned BM "Bulat". It is capable of detecting objects in passive mode at a range of no more than 1400 meters, therefore it is significantly inferior to modern thermal imagers.
It is reported about the use of new means of communication. For convenience, when moving backwards, the driver mechanic received a video camera placed in the stern.
It is known that currently the Ukrainian Armed Forces have received 13 such tanks, which were involved during the military parade in Kiev.
