Russia has allowed the creation of a new Arctic fleet as part of the Navy (Navy), TASS reports, citing a source in the naval sphere.
"Now the issue of creating a new structure — the Arctic Fleet of Russia is being considered. This will be a separate association within the Navy, whose main task will be to ensure the safety of the Northern Sea Route and the Arctic coast in the area of responsibility of the Northern and Pacific Fleets," the source said.
According to him, "the infrastructure for the functioning of the new association will be allocated from the Northern and Pacific Fleets," which will allow the latter to "focus on solving combat tasks for their intended purpose."
In May, Konstantin Sivkov, Deputy President of the Russian Academy of Missile and Artillery Sciences (RARAN) for Information Policy, Doctor of Military Sciences, said that the Joint Strategic Command (USC) "Northern Fleet", which ensures the security of the Russian part of the Arctic, would be destroyed in the event of a war with the US Navy.
