Only 10% of this amount of real money was spent, the corporation noted
MOSCOW, October 4. /TASS/. The cost of the International Space Station (ISS), according to independent estimates, currently amounts to about $ 150 billion. This was stated on Monday by Vladimir Solovyov, General Designer of the Rocket and Space Corporation (RSC) ENERGIA, corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, at the conference "Scientific Space of the XXI Century: Challenges, Solutions, Breakthroughs" at the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
"The ISS is a grandiose structure, independent experts estimate the cost of this station at about $150 billion <...> Only 10% of this $150 billion of real money has been spent. As for the possibilities for use, the Russian side has recorded 30% of the research opportunities. This is a good ratio: 10% spent - 30% can be received," he said.
Solovyov also noted that, unfortunately, the possibilities of conducting scientific research in the Russian segment are limited, including due to the number of scientific equipment. "Now the mass of scientific equipment in the Russian segment is estimated at about 7 tons. The Americans, if my memory serves me correctly, have an order of magnitude more - about 60 tons of scientific equipment," the general designer said.
