Sergey Savelyev, Deputy Director General of the ROSCOSMOS State Corporation for International Cooperation, revealed the future operation of the Proton-M heavy launch vehicle after 2025. His words are transmitted by RIA Novosti .
According to him, the issue of continued operation of the rocket has been discussed many times. "But still, this is a rocket with harmful fuel and the population of Kazakhstan is averse to this issue. There are no plans to return to this issue anymore," he said. At the same time, according to agreements with Kazakhstan, PROTON will be operated in both commercial and federal launches until 2025.
In July, the 11th launch of the Proton-M rocket took place. From the Baikonur cosmodrome, the carrier launched a 20-ton multifunctional laboratory module (MLM) "Science" into space.
In the future, the Proton-M is planned to be replaced by an ANGARA rocket. It uses environmentally friendly fuel components - oxygen and kerosene.
