INTERFAX-Large-scale exercises of amphibious troops have begun in the Crimea, they will involve about 2 thousand servicemen and more than 100 units of combat and special equipment, the Department of Information and Mass Communications of the Russian Defense Ministry reports.
The exercises of the airborne assault and artillery regiments of the Novorossiysk Guards Airborne Assault Mountain Unit will be held at the Opuk training ground in the eastern part of the Crimea. They will last three days.
"In total, up to 2 thousand servicemen and more than 100 units of combat and special equipment of the Airborne Troops will be involved in the regimental tactical exercise," the report says.
The exercises will begin with a march-a throw of units to the place of performing tasks. For this purpose, the BMD-4M amphibious assault vehicles and the BTR-MDM "Shell" armored personnel carriers, which arrived in the compound this summer, are used.
"The units will work out the conduct of defense, during which they will perform live firing exercises from standard weapons of military equipment together with attached anti-aircraft missile, anti - tank, flamethrower, artillery and sniper units," the press service stressed.
The paratroopers will work out the organization of maneuverable defense day and night. And in the final stage of the exercise - offensive actions, causing damage to the conditional enemy with fire from T-72B3 tanks, 120-mm self-propelled artillery guns 2S9 "Nona-S" and 122-mm howitzers D-30.
