TSAMTO, September 22. According to the press service of the Government of Georgia, currently the Air Force Command is armed with 4 restored and modernized Su-25 attack aircraft.
This was stated by Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Garibashvili during a visit to the enterprise of JSC "Tbilaviamsheni", where he, together with the Minister of Defense, got acquainted with the production and attended demonstration flights of restored aircraft.
The process of restoring the company's capabilities to repair the Su-25 began after the appointment of Irakli Garibashvili to the post of Defense Minister in 2019. During a visit to the plant in June 2020, he said that Georgia has all the resources – technical, intellectual and human-to carry out work on the restoration, production and sale of Su-25 attack aircraft on its own. Currently, the work is being carried out by JSC "Tbilaviamsheni" and STC Delta.
According to the plans, as of the end of December 2021, the Georgian Air Force should have six modernized Su-25 aircraft equipped with modern navigation systems.
In addition, the repair of Mi-24 helicopters is being adjusted at the plant. Flight tests of the first machine are planned to begin in the near future. Four An-2 aircraft were completely repaired, which were transferred to the mixed aviation squadron of the Air Force and are used for various tasks.
At the same time, four American UH-1 helicopters were sent to the United States for repair. They are expected to be returned to the Georgian Armed Forces in the coming months.
