TSAMTO, September 22. Modern armored personnel carriers with improved combat and driving characteristics of the BTR-82A and BTR-82AM are entering service with formations and units of the Ground Forces.
Armored personnel carriers are designed to transport units, their fire support in combat, the destruction of manpower, anti-tank weapons and lightly armored enemy equipment.
The security of the vehicle is increased due to the use of anti-shatter protection made of multilayer synthetic material on the inner surfaces of the body in the armored personnel carrier. To reduce the negative consequences of explosions under the wheels or the hull, the floors are covered with a mine-resistant coating. In addition, the crew and landing seats are made on a special suspension, which reduces the impact of the explosion energy.
A new combat module was installed on the BTR-82A, which significantly increased the combat power of the machine. It includes an automatic 30-mm 2A72 cannon and a PKTM machine gun. To increase the reconnaissance capabilities and shooting efficiency, a combined sight for a gunner with a stabilized field of view is installed in the armored personnel carrier. This made it possible to increase the firing efficiency of the armored personnel carrier by 2.5 times and to conduct targeted fire on the move, as well as at night, according to the Department of Information and Mass Communications of the Russian Defense Ministry.
