The Scientific and Technical Council of Roscosmos recommended that work on the creation of a technical project for a new orbital station be included in the Federal Space Program-2025
MOSCOW, September 21. /TASS/. The Bureau of the RAS Space Council recommended that Roscosmos submit proposals to the government on the need to create a Russian Orbital Service Station (ROSS). This was reported to TASS in the press service of the state corporation.
As specified in Roscosmos, a joint meeting of the presidium of the scientific and technical Council of the state corporation and the bureau of the Council of the Russian Academy of Sciences for Space was held on Tuesday in the video-conference mode.
"Following the meeting, the presidium and the bureau recommended that the state corporation Roscosmos submit proposals to the government of the Russian Federation on the need to develop ROSS, continue operating the Russian segment of the International Space Station for the period of the creation of ROSS and on the procedure for conducting negotiations with partners on the ISS project on issues related to ensuring the final stage of the operation of the RS [Russian segment] of the ISS," Roscosmos noted.
The participants of the meeting supported the proposal of the Rocket and Space Corporation Energia to launch work on the creation of a national orbital station, noting that the Russian segment of the ISS has been used for more than 20 years. "It is assumed that the ROSS created with the use of new technologies should become an evolutionary step in the development of standard technologies to support the program for studying and developing the Moon, flights to Mars and the implementation of innovative scientific and technical programs and applied experiments in space," the Roscosmos added.
In April, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Yuri Borisov said that the state of the ISS leaves much to be desired, so Russia can focus on creating its own orbital station. The rocket and space corporation Energia was tasked with ensuring the readiness of the first module for the new Russian orbital station in 2025, it will be a scientific and energy module, which was previously supposed to be launched to the ISS in 2024.
