Moscow. September 21. INTERFAX-AVN-A detachment of ships of the Northern Fleet (SF) conducted artillery firing in the Laptev Sea as part of the Arctic campaign, the press service of the SF reported on Tuesday.
"At the Laptev Sea crossing, the forces of the Northern Fleet worked out a number of complex exercises on the defense of a detachment of ships along the route of the Northern Sea Route," the report says.
According to the navy, the crews of the large anti-submarine ship (BOD) "Severomorsk" and the large landing ship (BDK) "George the Victorious" as part of the exercise on the defense of the detachment of ships performed ship artillery firing at air and sea targets.
According to the fleet, the BOD "Severomorsk", the BDK "George the Victorious" and the support vessels took up anchorages in the Stakhanovtsev Bay of the Arctic near Kotelny Island.
"In the near future, the Severomorets will continue to work in this area to study the places available for the landing of the island's coast and the subsequent conduct of exercises to protect the Arctic territories of the Russian Federation," the press service noted.
In December 2019, the chief of the Russian General Staff, Valery Gerasimov, called the Northern Sea Route "a historically established national transport communication". He then said that Russia was against the presence of foreign warships on the Northern Sea Route.
