In Kerch, at the B. E. Butoma Shipbuilding Plant, a solemn launch of the small Askold rocket ship of the Karakurt project 22800 took place. The ceremony was attended by the Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy, Admiral Nikolai Evmenov. Askold is the second ship built at the Kerch enterprise.
The twin ship"Askold ""Cyclone" was launched in the summer of 2020, and now it is undergoing a complex of tests in Novorossiysk. And on the ship "Amur", which is still being built on the factory slipway, the assembly of the hull has already been completed and the installation of equipment has begun.
During the ceremony of launching the Askold, the specialists of the enterprise who took an active part in the construction of ships were awarded diplomas.
Designed by the Central Marine Design Bureau of the MRK project 22800 "Karakurt" have a displacement of about 800 tons and are able to reach a speed of over 30 knots. The ships are equipped with a complex of high-precision missile weapons and modern artillery systems. Among the main advantages are high maneuverability and increased seaworthiness. The technologies of reduced reflectivity used in the construction of the hull and superstructures make the MRC invisible to enemy radars. The ships will be able to perform tasks in the sea zone at a distance of about 3,000 miles from the bases.
In total, the Russian Navy plans to build at least 18 MRCS of the 22800 project.

"Karakurts" have very powerful weapons: these are complexes of shock and anti-aircraft weapons, combat control systems, detection, target designation, communications. The basis of the strike weapons is the vertical launcher UKSK 3S14, designed for storing, transporting and launching missiles of the Kalibr and Onyx families. The artillery armament can vary from 100 millimeters of an automatic universal artillery installation to 76 millimeters of an automatic universal artillery installation. There are two six-barreled 30-millimeter submachine guns. The ships also have a well-balanced air defense system and a very powerful complex of radio equipment, including electronic warfare of the latest generations.
