Hong Kong. September 20. INTERFAX-North Korea on Monday condemned the US decision to help Australia in the construction of nuclear submarines within the framework of AUKUS, KCNA reports.
"These are extremely undesirable and dangerous actions that will disrupt the strategic balance in the Asia-Pacific region and provoke a chain of a nuclear arms race," the agency quotes an unnamed head of the foreign information department of the information department of the DPRK Foreign Ministry.
"The double standards of the United States, which are more clearly manifested after the new administration comes to power, violate general international rules and order, seriously threaten peace and stability," he said.
According to him, this situation once again confirms that "in order to respond to the changing international security situation, it is necessary not to slow down the strengthening of the state defense capability for a minute."
"We are conducting a thorough analysis of the motive for the US making such a decision and its prospects, we will certainly take appropriate measures in case of even the slightest negative impact on the security of our state," the official added.
Earlier this week, US President Joe Biden, Australian Prime Ministers Scott Morrison and British Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced the creation of a trilateral security partnership - AUKUS. The Australian Prime Minister said that the first initiative within the framework of the alliance will be the creation of nuclear submarines for the Navy, which provides for the refusal of Canberra from the contract for the construction of submarines with the French company Naval Group for $90 billion.
