US military expert Chris Osborne said that the US is closing the gap with Russia in the field of hypersonic weapons. On Saturday, September 18, the observer reported this in his article for the National Interest magazine.
According to Osborne, Russia has impressive examples of such weapons. As examples, he cited the anti-ship missiles "Zircon" and the missile system "Dagger". Osborne considers the hypersonic missile system Long-Range Hypersonic Weapon, which is due to enter service in 2023, to be the American answer.
The new complex will consist of four launchers with a control center, whose missiles can hit both land and sea targets. In total, there are eight missiles in the American complex. The simultaneous use of such a number of missiles will create a serious threat to the opponent.
Osborne noted that Russia still has a tactical advantage in the development of hypersonic weapons, but this gap is beginning to narrow.
Earlier, the head of the Rostec state corporation, Sergey Chemezov, said that today there is no counteraction to the Russian hypersonic Kinzhal missiles in the world.
