India is named the first potential buyer of the S-500 from Russia
The Russian Aerospace Forces (VKS) have begun to receive the first samples of the latest S-500 anti-aircraft missile system, called "Prometheus". This is a modern complex capable of repelling attacks even from space. The government does not exclude that in the future, India will become the first country where the Russian Federation will sell Prometheus.
Russia has completed state tests of the new-generation S-500 Prometheus anti-aircraft missile system (SAM). According to Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Yuri Borisov, the complex developed by the military-industrial concern Almaz-Antey has already begun to enter service in the Russian army.
"The first deliveries of this complex have begun. And that is not yet in the full nomenclature that must be made at the request of the customer. These are such configurations of the complex of the agreed composition, " Borisov said at the Tyumen Oil and Gas Forum (TNF 2021).
According to its tactical and technical characteristics, the Prometheus (Triumfator-M) is capable of intercepting all available and promising means of an air and space attack from a potential enemy, the zone of action of the air defense complex is designed for the means of the entire range of heights and speeds.
It is expected, among other things, that the S-500 will significantly surpass its predecessor (the S-400 Triumph) in terms of range (600 km, that is, 200 km more) and system response time (3-4 seconds is 6 seconds faster).
The new air defense system will use a complex of missiles - the same ones that are used by the Triumph, that is, the 77N6 series, it is a two-stage solid-fuel rocket with a length of more than 9.1 m. Prometheus is also designed for the use of new types of 77N6-H and 77N6-H1 missiles, the first in Russia with inert warheads capable of destroying nuclear charges. "Triumfator-M" has a complex guidance system and uses the principle of impact force to destroy enemy warheads.
The complex can be transported both by land and by air, as well as deployed depending on the threat.
There are no specific agreements between the countries yet, since Russia will not sell Prometheus to foreign partners until it equips its own army with them in the required volume (in July, the Ministry of Defense ordered the first batch of the complex in the number of 10 units from the manufacturer of Triumphator-M). Exports can be expected within a few years.
"Sometimes we sell to India what we do not sell to other countries, because we have no political or territorial claims among ourselves or conflict situations. Our cooperation has been tested for years, " the Deputy Prime Minister explained why this country can become the first candidate for the sale of the S-500.
It is expected that the serial delivery of the S-500 abroad will be possible by 2025.
In April, as the Newspaper wrote.Ru", the Aerospace Forces of the Russian Federation have adopted the newest radar "Yenisei". This is a modern and multifunctional radar aerial reconnaissance tool capable of recognizing hypersonic targets. The main feature of the Yenisei is that the station is designed for continuous operation for a long time. This radar sample was integrated into the S-400 system. With a high degree of probability, it will be included in the S-500.
