Hong Kong. September 16. INTERFAX-North Korea said that a railway mobile missile regiment conducted training firing on Wednesday, KCNA reported.
"At dawn on September 15, the railway missile regiment participated in the exercises, having been assigned to maneuver into the central mountainous area and strike a target at a distance of about 800 km," the North Korean agency said in a statement.
According to the KCNA, the task was completed successfully.
The agency noted that the exercises were organized to " increase the ability to deliver intensive simultaneous strikes against forces that pose a threat to us during the necessary military operations."
Test firing was also carried out to confirm "the practicality of the railway missile system, which was deployed for the first time for work", "to assess combat readiness" and "practice the order of combat operations".
North Korean leader Kim Jong-un was not present at the tests. Their progress was observed by a member of the Presidium of the Politburo of the Central Committee of the Workers ' Party of Korea (CPC), Secretary of the Central Committee Park Chong Chon.
"Park Jong-cheon said that the deployment of a railway missile system for actions in accordance with the line and policy for the modernization of the army outlined at the eighth congress of our party is of great importance for increasing the country's military deterrence,"the KCNA said.
In turn, the South Korean media suggest that in this way the DPRK confirmed the launches of two short-range ballistic missiles from a train into the Sea of Japan.
Earlier on Wednesday, the Joint Chiefs of Staff of South Korea reported that North Korea had launched two ballistic missiles into the Sea of Japan. The military noted that the unidentified type of missiles were fired from the central interior regions of the DPRK.
