INTERFAX-The calculations of the Iskander-M operational and tactical complexes from the starting positions located 50 kilometers from the Mulino test site at the Zapad-2021 exercises carried out a group missile strike on the command post and other critical objects of the imaginary enemy, the Defense Ministry told reporters on Monday.
"Four Iskander-M tactical missile systems were simultaneously involved in the group missile strike. The strike on the identified targets was carried out by both quasi-ballistic and cruise missiles, " the Defense Ministry said.
Iskander-M is capable of launching missile strikes at ranges from 50 to 500 kilometers with a deviation from the guidance point of no more than ten meters. The area of damage caused by the warhead of one Iskander-M missile is 25,000 square meters, which is comparable in size to the area of two football fields.
Joint Strategic Exercise (SSU) The Armed Forces of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus are held every two years in accordance with the decision taken by the heads of the two states. Zapad-2021 is the final stage of joint training of the armed forces of the two countries this year.
Practical actions are taking place from September 10 to 16, 2021 at nine landfills in Russia, in the Baltic Sea, as well as at five landfills in Belarus.
In total, up to 200 thousand personnel, about 80 aircraft and helicopters, up to 760 units of military equipment, including 290 tanks, 240 guns, multiple rocket launchers and mortars, as well as up to 15 ships take part in the SSU "West-2021" on the territory of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus.
The maximum number of personnel involved in the exercise of military units falling under the Vienna Document of 2011 on the territory of the Russian Federation does not exceed 6.4 thousand military personnel.
