A ceremony of laying a mine defense ship was held at the Sredne-Nevsky Shipyard (SNSZ, part of the United Shipbuilding Corporation).
These ships belong to a new generation of minesweeping forces and are designed to combat sea mines: the PMO ships of the 12700 project can detect them both in the water of marine waters and in the sea soil, without entering the danger zone.
By order of the Commander-in-Chief of the Navy, the future minesweeper was given the current name " Afanasy Ivannikov "in honor of the Hero of the Soviet Union, who commanded the minesweeper" T-115 " of the 6th division of the minesweeper brigade of the trawling protection of the Pechenga naval Base of the Northern Fleet, Lieutenant Commander Afanasy Ivanovich Ivannikov during the Great Patriotic War. The mine defense ship "Afanasy Ivannikov" will be the ninth in the line of the project 12700, laid down at the Sredne-Nevsky Shipyard.
The new defense order informs that the project 12700 was developed by the Central Marine Design Bureau Almaz (part of the United Shipbuilding Corporation) for the Russian Navy.
These ships belong to a new generation of minesweeping forces and are designed to combat sea mines, which the new PMO ships can detect both in the water of marine waters and in the sea soil without entering the danger zone.
