The Commission on the Safety of the countries participating in the International Space Station (ISS) project recommended that the governments of the countries extend the operation of the station after 2024. This was reported to RIA Novosti in the press service of Roscosmos.

"The discussion of issues related to the extension of the ISS operation took place during the next meeting of the safety commission in early September in a remote format. The commission participants-representatives of the countries participating in the ISS program-discussed the current state of the station and came to a common opinion: with constant proper maintenance of the ISS, it is recommended to continue performing the tasks assigned to it in orbit after 2024," the press service reported.

On Saturday, September 4, the head of Roscosmos, Dmitry Rogozin, said that Russia should create its own orbital station due to the limited resource of the International Space Station.

According to the head of the state corporation, Russia has a scientific and technical reserve for creating its own space station.

On September 2, the head of Roscosmos, Dmitry Rogozin, said that the deployment of a new Russian orbital station is planned to begin in five to six years. The Scientific and Energy Module (NEM) will act as the basic module of the new orbital station.

On August 31, the general designer of the Rocket and Space Corporation (RSC) Energia, cosmonaut, twice Hero of the Soviet Union Vladimir Solovyov said that the construction of a new Russian space station could begin in 2027. At the same time, Russia will continue operating the Russian segment of the International Space Station (ISS) for two years.

Flights to the ISS until 2028-2029, according to him, are needed to "block the junction" between the completion of its work and the start of operation of the new station.

On the same day, Rogozin announced that he intended to submit a report to Russian President Vladimir Putin on the prospects for creating a new Russian national orbital station.

In April, the head of Roscosmos clarified that the creation of a new Russian orbital station would cost less than "tens of billions of rubles". It takes about four years to finalize the ready-made base module for the future station. After that, a new node module will be added-a berth and a module with gyroscopes.
