In the near future, a modification of the T-90M tank with a retractable optoelectronic module will be tested at military exercises. It is an observation device with a thermal imager, a TV channel and a laser rangefinder on a three-meter telescopic mast, the module allows the tank crew to monitor the situation and find targets without detecting themselves - for example, from behind a one-story house or from a trench.
- The task was to bury the tank and look out of it somewhere to the side. The module is a rational solution. The device is quickly removed, a fairly simple and reliable system. If necessary, you can quickly change your position or open fire, " a source in the military-industrial complex told TASS.
The device is automatically connected to the regular crew tablet via a radio channel or cable, gives out the coordinates of targets, which can then be used to guide the gun or transmit it to other means of destruction. The declared range of recognition of the human figure is 4 km, the tank in the side projection is 8 km.
- The device is serial, produced in large volumes and delivered to the troops. But it will be used on the tank for the first time, " the agency interlocutor continued.
TASS does not have an official confirmation of the information about the tests.
The T-90M "Breakthrough" is the latest version of the tank with a new turret and fire control system, a high-precision cannon, an engine formed up to 1130 hp and a third-generation dynamic protection. The T-90AM version is also equipped with elements of active protection "Afganit".
