The South-Western command of the Indian Army has released video footage of maneuvers with the mass participation of the main battle tanks T-90S Bhishma.
At the beginning of the video, combat vehicles, raising clouds of dust, make a simultaneous turn of almost 180 degrees on command. Then the synchronous reverse movement of an entire tank unit is demonstrated.
According to military experts, such coherence is necessary during the conduct of both full-scale military operations and during operations in low-intensity conflicts.
Currently, the "nineties" are the main striking power of the land forces of this country - there are 1,100 units in service. At the same time, licensed production continues.
Last year, it was reported about plans to equip these machines with auxiliary power plants that provide electricity to various systems when the main engine is not functioning. This will save resources, fuel, charge batteries, and also reduce thermal visibility.
It is planned to introduce other innovations, thanks to which Bhishma will be able to compete on an equal footing with the most modern foreign equipment of a similar purpose.
Interestingly, in the first half of the 90s, the Indian military was looking at a simpler T-72S and a gas turbine "flying" T-80. These tanks were even tested in the Tar desert.
But it turned out that the diesel engine is more preferable for operation in the local extreme conditions. In addition, the need for more advanced sighting systems with thermal imagers was voiced.
As a result, in 1998, T-90 tanks that fully meet the requirements of the Indian military were tested in the same region.
