MOSCOW, September 7. /TASS/. Military contingents from seven countries arrived in the Nizhny Novgorod region to participate in the strategic exercises "West-2021". This was reported to journalists in the press service of the Western Military District.
"About 500 servicemen of Armenia, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Pakistan and Sri Lanka flew military transport aircraft of the Russian Aerospace Forces to the autonomous field camp of the combat training center of the Western Military District and began accepting weapons, military and special equipment, as well as preparing for a joint exercise," the district said.
The press service said that within five days, the foreign military will be familiarized with the sites of the joint exercise, will conduct a sighting of weapons and military equipment, in particular T-72B3 tanks, BMP-2 infantry fighting vehicles, as well as Ak-74M assault rifles, RPG-7B grenade launchers and PKM machine guns.
The joint Russian-Belarusian strategic exercises "West-2021" will be held on September 10-16 at the military training grounds of Belarus and Russia. About 200 thousand people, over 80 planes and helicopters, up to 760 units of military equipment, of which 13 thousand people, over 30 planes and helicopters, up to 350 units of military equipment will be involved in them on the territory of Belarus. The concept of the exercises is based on one of the possible options for the escalation of the military-political situation against a conditional state. The Russian and Belarusian sides have repeatedly stated the defensive nature of the upcoming maneuvers, which will not be directed against anyone.
