At the international military-technical forum "Army-2021", Russia presented a new product-an underwater drone. Its main task is to explore the seabed, but if necessary, it can also attack. The timing of commissioning has not yet been reported, but the manufacturer has already told about the characteristics of the device.
His task is research, but at the same time he can attack
In August, the international military-technical forum "Army-2021"was held in Moscow. At it, the military enterprise-developer of weapons "Gidropribor" presented an underwater drone.
This device can independently explore the seabed.
"This underwater drone can automatically study the seabed, conduct geodetic surveys, as well as electronic warfare to interfere with the electromagnetic waves of the enemy. If you install the appropriate software, it can be controlled by a person. Since the main task is research, the drone moves at a low speed, which is only 1.5 kilometers per hour, but it can dive to a depth of 300 meters. In addition, if an unidentified object is found at the bottom, the device can approach and dig it out," the representative of Gidropribor explains.
The timing of commissioning is not reported.
Apparently, this drone will not attack an enemy submarine when it is detected. Nevertheless, the ability to excavate an unidentified object under water may indicate that the device can attack enemy submarines.
Artificial intelligence (AI) technologies are actively used in the military sphere. As a result, the armament becomes autonomous. AI is being introduced into the military sphere not only in Russia, but also in the United States, China, India and Israel.
The developers are trying to create an autonomous deadly weapon based on AI, capable of attacking people without the need to obtain prior permission from a person. A group of experts of the UN Security Council reported that autonomous weapons may have killed people in Libya.
International NGOs, AI developers and the governments of 30 countries oppose the development and use of such weapons due to the unethical and immoral nature of attacking and killing people without a person's permission, while Russia has no objections.
