The newest mine defense ship "Vladimir Yemelyanov"arrived in Sevastopol after the transition from the Baltic to the Black Sea Fleet.
The ship under the command of Lieutenant Commander Denis Gainutdinov, after participating in the Main Naval Parade in St. Petersburg on July 25 and conducting pre-navigation training, began to perform the tasks of the inter-fleet transition.
During the period of being part of the permanent Naval grouping in the Mediterranean Sea, the crew successfully completed a training course and confirmed their readiness to perform tasks for their intended purpose.
The mine defense ship "Vladimir Yemelyanov" was built at the Sredne-Nevsky Shipyard. Composite material was used for the manufacture of the ship's hull.
The ships of this project are designed to combat modern types of mines, both in water areas and on the ground. They are capable of using traditional minesweeping weapons, as well as using the latest sonar stations located both on the ship itself and on remote-controlled and autonomous underwater vehicles, and have an automated mine action control system.
The naval flag on the ship was raised in December 2019.
The ship's crew took part in the Main Naval Parades in St. Petersburg in 2020 and 2021.
The ship is named in honor of Vladimir Alexandrovich Yemelyanov, Hero of Socialist Labor, former director of the Sredne-Nevsky Shipbuilding Plant and the A. A. Zhdanov Plant (Severnaya Verf), who took part in the construction of mine defense ships with hulls made of low-magnetic steel and fiberglass.
