Two "Varshavyanka" went to the Pacific Ocean. Today, on September 3, the TASS news agency reported that the diesel-electric submarines of project 636.3 "Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky" and "Volkhov", which were part of the Pacific Fleet of the Russian Navy, are making the transition from the Baltic Sea to the place of permanent basing.
The transition from the Baltic to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky is also carried out by the head multi-purpose corvette of project 20385 "Gremyashchy". The route will pass through the Mediterranean Sea and the Suez Canal.

The first models of the Varshavyanka were developed back in the 70s by the Central Design Bureau of Marine Equipment Rubin. The Soviet leadership planned to establish mass production of these submarines for deliveries to the Warsaw Pact countries (hence the name "Varshavyanka"). Serial construction of project 636 submarines was established only in the mid-90s. A special feature of the 636.3 project is the equipping of the boats with the Kalibr strike missile system, as well as updated radio-electronic equipment. "Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky" and "Volkhov" are the first two "Varshavyanka" out of six ordered for the Pacific Fleet. Both submarines were built and launched at the Admiralty Shipyards in St. Petersburg.
The project 636.3 Varshavyanka submarines belong to the third generation, are a development of the submarines of projects 636 and 877 and are considered one of the lowest noise in the world. The speed of the underwater course is 20 knots, the maximum diving depth is 300 m, the underwater displacement is over 3000 tons.
